The afternoon of my single visit to Liverpool coincided with an especially vicious rain storm and wind. I made the mistake of under-estimating the impact of wind and rain beating upon a human as he tried to move away from the centre of Liverpool, along the coast road. A closed road, brought an end to my journey, and with hind-sight this was fortunate. A stubborn streak can only bring an unfit cyclist so far on a Liverpool public bike against the onslaught of port-side rain.

Again with hindsight, I should have taken what seems to be an excellent Mersey train service, out to the goal of my trip – to see….
